Sylhet Libraries in the buyer crisis

Abdul Kadir Jibon :: Like other crises, during the time of Corona Virus (Covid19) period, the book trade in Sylhet has come to a standstill. Books are being bought and sold online after the lockdown. At the present time, book dealers open shops but say there are no buyers. The number of readers of the book has decreased since the internet became available.

Libraries of Sylhet City can be seen on the ground; because of the corona virus (Covid-19) no one is leaving the house without urgent work. Readers can’t go to any bookstore. Schools, colleges, madrasas and universities are not opening. As a result, the presence of buyers in the bookshop is very low. The owners of all the bookshops in Sylhet are worried.

Many libraries have already closed due to non-purchase. Such information was found by visiting various libraries in the City of Sylhet .

Annamatra  book shop owner Aminur Rahman told that the condition of the libraries is very bad. Buying and selling is very low. So far I have not seen any students or parents come to buy books. No one is leaving the house because of Corona Virus. There has been a panic in people’s minds from the very beginning. However, as much as books are being sold online, they are not being sold offline.

Among the various libraries of Sylhet City are: Poppy Library, Friends Library, Malancha Library, Onnamatra Bookshop Library, Jasim Book House Library, Shakil Book House Library, Alamin Library, Batighar Library, Boi Bichitra Library, National Library, moreover, there are innumerable libraries in Sylhet city.

Abul Hossain, the owner of Boi Bichitra Library told that It goes without saying that books have not been sold now, because my books are centered on different colleges and universities. Now if colleges, universities do not open then how to sell books? Hopefully we can get back to normal if the situation is normal.

Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the owner of Jasim Book House Library, told that in fact, those who buy books are aware. And those who are aware are not leaving the house. Due to which book sales are getting less than before.

Reader Razia Sultana says that we can’t get out of the house every day, how can I buy books? All day long I am in a state of panic and anxiety, when I know what happens. Meanwhile, schools, colleges, madrasas and universities are closed, how to buy a book in such a situation. But a few days ago I bought some books online. At one time I used to buy a lot of books. Not anymore.
