CNBangla Desk:: Floods may strike Lalmonirhat for the third time this monsoon as Teesta River has crossed the danger level due to onrush of water from upstream India and heavy rainfall, according to Water Development Board.
Teesta has been flowing 15 cm above danger level at Teesta Barrage point in Dowani area of Hatibandha upazila since 6:00am today.
If the onrush of water from upstream India continues to flow downstream, the water level in the Teesta River will rise further and flood the district again, Mizanur said.
Due to the water level rise in Teesta, around one lakh people living in the Teesta shoal are fearing another flood.
They were hit by the first phase of floods in June, and before recovering from the impact, they were hit by the second phase in July, which they are yet to overcome.
Many people in the char areas were seen leaving their homes this morning, fearing fresh floods.
